4 Hour Workweek

The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich (Expanded and Updated) by Timothy Ferriss is a book every digital nomad (or aspiring digital nomad) should add to their reading list. The inspirational quick read forces the reader to think outside our social norm. Our society (mostly American culture) demands we live to work, instead of working to live. Ferriss’ book provides step by step guides to work remotely, autonomize your business, and gain the most from your experiences.

This book has somewhat of a “self help book” vibe, but provides facts and real life experiences from both Ferriss and his readers. I used 4 Hour Workweek to verify that I’m on the correct path to becoming a digital nomad. I’m pursuing a similar lifestyle as Ferriss- to be free to travel the world and not be tied to a specific location due to a job. “The objective is to create freedom of time and place and use both however you want.” He believes that the idea to spend all our “good” years working and saving money, only to have to wait to spend the money in our retirement is preposterous.

“Forget the old concept of retirement and the rest of the deferred-life plan–there is no need to wait and every reason not to, especially in unpredictable economic times. Whether your dream is escaping the rat race, experiencing high-end world travel, earning a monthly five-figure income with zero management, or just living more and working less, The 4-Hour Workweek is the blueprint,” –The 4-Hour Workweek

Ferriss also has a 4 Hour Workweek podcast, for inspiration on the go and The 4 Hour Workweek website. Whether you an aspiring digital nomad like myself, or looking for a way to get the most out of life, The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich (Expanded and Updated) is a great book to get you started on your goals.

“Surround yourself with smiling, positive people who have absolutely nothing to do with work.”
